Green smoothies are a great way to get a serving of protein and vegetables. This winter green smoothie is a great way to start the day. You can follow the recipe below or get creative!
1 apple, cored and cut into large chunks (Granny Smith apples have the least amount of sugar)
1 pear, cored and cut into large chunks
Handful of fresh or frozen cranberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, etc.
1 inch piece of fresh ginger (grated or as a junk)
Approx. 2 cups of water
6 to 7 large kale leaves
Handful of spinach
Handful of fresh parsley (optional)
1 tsp of cinnamon
3 tbsp of hemp hearts or 2 tbsp ground flaxseeds
Scoop of vegan protein powder
For smoothies, we recommend substituting a scoop of vegan protein powder where energy/protein powder is suggested.
Place all of the ingredients into a high-powered blender and blend until smooth. Add more water for a thinner smoothie. If you make more than you can consume in one day, add the juice of ½ a lemon to help prevent oxidation of the fruit.
