Less than seven hours of sleep is not enough during pregnancy. Sleep deprivation in pregnancy has been linked to increased risk of preterm labour, postpartum depression, and higher glucose tolerance test results. Lack of sleep is most common in the first trimester mainly due to the nausea that occurs during this time and in the third trimester because of fetal movement, increased urination and back/hip pains.
