Kava kava (Piper methysticum)

A few years ago, Kava kava (Piper methysticum) received some negative press around its safety but this has since been revoked and it’s safety profile restored. However, those with pre-existing liver conditions should avoid this herb. Kava has been shown to have similar anti-anxiety effects to that of benzodiazepine drugs without the extremely addictive qualities these drugs tend to have. Kava induces a healthy sleep state and can help relax tense muscles.
